Park Slope Townhouse

This home is a refurbishment and addition to an existing 2-story brick home. Our design restores the exterior brickwork while making tactical modifications like expanding the size of the windows in the living room. Existing wood joists are reused and framed around a new wooden staircase and cross laminated timber beams form the structure for all new insertions.

Inside, the house is designed to balance entertaining with family life. Guests follow the skylit stairway past the second floor of bedrooms to the new rooftop den and terrace (above). This Eastern Red Cedar clad rooftop addition adds 430sf of additional space to the home. The living room is separated from the kitchen by a set of pocket doors that lead out into the rear yard, and maple herringbone floors frame all living spaces. The existing double hung windows in the living room are replaced with an expansive window seat that looks out into the front garden, and behind the scenes all existing windows and insulation are replaced to upgrade comfort and efficient energy use for years to come.

Residential

The kitchen occupies an existing rear yard extension that is re-clad in zinc panels which will weather beautifully over time. Slate floor tiles transition seamlessly into the garden.

The millwork is Shaker inspired cabinetry by deVOL Kitchens finished in a calming shade of olive green. Custom wood pocket doors with brass hardware and fluted glass provide light and privacy from the living room.
